Happy Fourth of July!

Sometimes, with all the hot dogs and fireworks we get distracted from the real reason we are celebrating. Here are some thoughts to remind us what it's all about.

Have a great day! ;)

"We must determine now to be enslaved or free. If we make freedom our choice, we must obtain it by united and vigorous efforts." George Washington

"The mystic chords of memory, stretching from every battle-field, and patriot grave, to every living heart and hearth-stone, all over this broad land, will yet swell the chorus of the Union, when again touched, as surely they will be, by the better angels of our nature."

*From the March 4, 1861 Inaugural Address Abraham Lincoln

"Those who expect to reap the blessings of freedom…must undergo the fatigue of supporting it."
Thomas Paine

"Give me liberty or give me death."
Patrick Henry

"We must hang together, gentlemen...else, we shall most assuredly hang separately."

Benjamin Franklin

"The only way we can keep our freedom is to work at it...not some of us, all of us... not some of the time, but all of the time. So, if you value your citizenship and you want to keep it for yourself and your children and their children, give it your faith, your belief, and give it your active support." Spencer W. Kimball

Thank you so much for the beautiul quotes. Craig was raised in a very patriotic family. Our family has been in this country since the 1600's, and John Young, Craig's great-great-great-great grandfather, fought in the Revolu-tionary War under General George Washington. He carried a cannon ball from the Carolina's (I believe) to New York where it is displayed in the New York City Museum. Just a little family history. I don't know if Craig knows all of that, so I am trying to get all of this written down for posterity.

It used to be proper flag etiquette to display the flag every day during war. I wonder why Americans don't do that any more. Maybe because those who knew all these things are dying off and so we have no one to remind us. My flag is out today. I hope to do beter!

    Love,
    Mom Hall
